Please note in Session 4 around the 16 min mark when the slide ‘Symbols and Representational Art’ is displayed, Bernie says ‘signs’ when he means ‘symbol’. In this class ‘symbols’ are considered to have a non-arbitrary relationship with what they symbolize, while with signs the relationship is arbitrary.
