Platonic Mysticism and Science
This week in Plato’s Republic we come to the famous part where Socrates must break into allegory to provide a glimpse of the ultimate goal of the philosopher’s education. The enduring fascination with ‘the divided line’ and Plato’s cave is introduced by this excellent podcast in The Secret History of Western Esotericism. Also check out this episode discussing the incredible recent findings on the mathematical structure underlying the text.

A new course is also on offer this spring: Platonic Love. It’s not for beginners…and not for the faint-hearted!
We are now taking enrolments for our beginners course, Reading Plato, commencing as scheduled online from Tuesday, 14 July (enrol CLASS FULL). Platonic Esoteric Geometry will be deferred until Covid-19 restrictions ease, as it requires hands-on instruction. Those who have read some Plato before are invited to read The Republic with us on Monday nights, starting 13 July.
